Citizens Advice

Leeds CAB offers advice on a wide range of subjects and is open to everyone living or working in the Leeds Metropolitan District. The main subjects we can advise on are: Benefits & Tax Credits; Debt; Housing; Employment rights. We can also help with many other subjects including fuel bills, discrimination, tax, legal matters and more. To see an adviser at the City Centre Bureau you will have to call in during our drop-in opening hours, where we will provide you with a short (5 to 10 minute) assessment looking at how you can best get help with your enquiry.

Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is one way of dealing with debts you can’t pay. Your assets can be used to pay your creditors (people you owe money to). You are subject to certain restrictions and discharged (freed) from your debts after a period of time.

The CCCS provides free and confidential counselling on debt problems – including personal budgeting and credit advice.

Leeds City Credit Union

Leeds City Credit Union is an organisation that provides straightforward, affordable financial services to anyone who lives or works in the Leeds Metropolitan area. Members of LCCU make regular payments into a range of savings accounts – this fund then provides the basis for preferential rate loans.

The Welfare Rights Unit

The Welfare Rights Unit is part of Leeds City Council’s Customer Services Team. We offer free, confidential and impartial advice and support on a whole range of welfare benefits.

Leeds Money Buddies

Money Buddies are volunteer money friends that will work with you to help you save money, maximise your income, develop budgets and financial statements, negotiate with people you owe money to, help you switch utility suppliers, apply for grants such as Yorkshire Water Community Trust, Charis Grants and Discretionary Housing Payments, explain what an illegal loan shark is, help you to report an illegal loan shark, help you apply for Credit Union accounts. on-line and will look at other ways of saving money with you.
